E.COOLINE COOLING CLOTHING FOR ECTODERMAL DYSPLASIA

Relieve heat problems in ectodermal dysplasia with E.COOLINE cooling clothing. Is that possible?

A lack of sweat glands prevents sufficient sweating. At high temperatures, this can quickly lead to overheating and can thus become hell. What seems almost inconceivable to most people is unfortunately everyday life for people with ectodermal dysplasia. The climate-neutral E.COOLINE cooling functional clothing takes over the sweating for those whose sweating function is restricted and thus prevents overheating.

STUDY OF HEAT PROBLEM IN ED PROVIDES CONCLUSIVE RESULTS

At the University Hospital of Erlangen-Nuremberg, the exercise-induced overheating of children and adolescents with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) was scientifically investigated. Since the most common form of this genetic developmental disorder is characterized by a lack of sweat glands, the focus of the study was on the effect of heat stress during physical activity. The result: Physical exertion has a significantly more severe impact on children and adolescents diagnosed with HED than on healthy peers. Not only did the core body temperature of the 12 subjects with HED rise significantly more during exercise on the bicycle ergometer than in the control group, but recovery after the exercise sessions also took demonstrably longer. However, this effect could be significantly minimized by using cooling textiles in the laboratory environment.

MINIMIZE THE RISK OF LIFE-THREATENING OVERHEATING

Translated to the everyday lives of those affected by HED, this means that cooling textiles such as the E.COOLINE Repower Kids cooling vest play a crucial role in counteracting life-threatening overheating, which often leads to death or lifelong disability, especially in babies and toddlers. The high risk of overheating in HED patients can be reduced specifically with these textiles, without the effort associated with, for example, regular cold showers.

THE ECTODERMAL DYSPLASIA

According to the definition of Prof. Dr. Holm Schneider, the term ectodermal dysplasia (ED) refers to diseases that can be traced back to hereditary developmental disorders of the outer germinal layer of the embryo. More than 160 different combinations of traits are summed up under it. The most common form of the disease, which was also investigated in the study at the University of Erlangen, is X-linked hypohidrotic ED, which is primarily characterised by missing or deformed teeth, sparse body hair and the lack of sweat glands. The latter characteristic causes those affected to have difficulty regulating their body temperature. Physical exertion or high outside temperatures therefore quickly lead to overheating. This effect poses an increased risk of febrile seizures and brain damage, particularly for newborns. In such cases, the body must be cooled down immediately. The tendency to heat build-up must, however, be taken into account in all planned physical activities and career choices, even in old age (see www.ektodermale-dysplasie.de)

EFFECTIVENESS OF E.COOLINE CONFIRMED IN STUDIES

The process of overheating in HED patients as a result of physical exertion was scientifically investigated for the first time by the research group led by Holm Schneider at the University Hospital Erlangen-Nuremberg. To specifically examine the effect of cooling, the study used E.COOLINE cooling functional clothing, whose positive effects have already been demonstrated in patients with multiple sclerosis and in competitive sports.

The study design envisaged that the study group of 12 male children and adolescents affected by HED was compared to a control group of 12 healthy, male subjects of the same age. All participants completed a standardized stress test on a bicycle – the outside temperature was 25 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively. At the higher outside temperature, the stress was also tested with and without cooling textiles. Core body temperature was measured using a swallowed temperature probe, which enabled very accurate and reliable measurements to be obtained.

WITHOUT COOLING IN THE FEVER RANGE

It was shown that the body temperature of the study group (still at 25 degrees Celsius without cooling) rose significantly faster than that of the control group of the same age. The children with HED disease reached a body temperature of up to 38.4 degrees Celsius within 30 minutes, and the adolescents even reached 38.8 degrees Celsius, which in both cases represented a difference of at least 1.5 degrees from the baseline value.

In the second part of the study, at outside temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius and 40 percent humidity, comparable to a hot summer day, the cooling clothing demonstrably demonstrated its strengths. While the body temperature of the HED subjects reached an average of 39.3 degrees Celsius without the use of cooling textiles, the average temperature of participants in the study group with the cooling vest was 38.5 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the participants with the vest returned to normal body temperature much more quickly after exercise. The trend toward a performance difference compared to the healthy control group was almost eliminated with the cooling textiles.

COOLING FOR MORE QUALITY OF LIFE

The study results show that there is indeed a cure for the heat stress experienced by people with HED. Effective body cooling options can make a decisive contribution to improving the quality of life in patients’ everyday lives. Cooling textiles are particularly helpful for children who are not yet able to respond independently to feelings of heat, as they take over the natural effect of thermoregulation and automatically adjust to body temperature. In contrast to calf wraps, showers, or other complex cooling methods, the study also showed increased acceptance of the textiles among children and adolescents. “The bandana in particular

E.COOLINE - A FUTURE WITHOUT HEAT PROBLEMS

We have conducted research at a leading clinic in Germany. The reactions of those affected are overwhelming and even the feedback from otherwise rather reserved doctors and therapists is very positive. The reasons for this are the simple and quick activation of the vests with water from the tap, the low weight, which guarantees a high level of comfort, and the long-lasting effect, which ensures use for hours – even a whole day – without any further requirements. The vests can be worn over or under your normal clothing, they are available in different sizes and easy to clean.
